A Romantic Bow from Serène
Posted by richard | May 31, 2016

Just in time for the June bride, new UK label Serène Intimates debuts this week with an all-white collection that marries vintage appeal and modern femininity.

The debut set, called Esme, bowed on the weekend with the opening of Serène‘s online shop, and while it’s not strictly a bridal range there’s plenty here that would complement the trousseau of a young newlywed.

The Esme range includes nine pieces fashioned from silk chiffon, satin, tulle and French Leavers lace in delicate ivory and dove grey tones. And, lest you worry about getting the perfect fit, everything is handmade to order.

Kayleigh Millar, Serène‘s founder, is among a growing number of skilled young independents who are choosing a career path that focuses on the craftsmanship associated with handmade garments.

An accomplished fashion illustrator, Kayleigh (right) graduated from the London College of Fashion’s contour program in 2013 and developed her technical skills by working first with the Scottish luxury label Gilda & Pearl (where she eventually became studio manager) and then designing fashion lingerie for Ultimo. Those are pretty stellar stepping stones for a career in lingerie, exposing Kayleigh to the multi-tasking challenges of working in an atelier as well as the relentless pressures of a successful high street fashion brand.

Serène, she says, was “inspired by art and, with a love of creativity and traditional craftsmanship, we aspire to create truly beautiful garments with wearability and comfort in mind.”

The new brand also offers a bespoke service that allows customers to help create exclusive garments with unique embellishments.

Serène has been in the works for some time now and since January it has been full steam ahead to get everything ready for the launch,” Kayleigh told Lingerie Talk. “We’re so pleased with the response so far and are looking forward to the release of the next set of designs.”

Here’s a look at Serène‘s romantic debut offering, with prices ranging from £65 for the Esme short to £420 for the semi-sheer robe. The main photo at the top of this post (and below) shows the label’s signature balconette bra with distinctive silver fittings and tulle straps.
