There’s a good reason why snakes shed their skin every month or so: it allows them to grow.
It’s also a good metaphor for a spring wardrobe change; there’s nothing like a fashion makeover to lift the spirits and give you a new perspective on yourself.
All of which is a roundabout way of introducing Kriss Soonik‘s Snakeskin collection, which will be high on the must-have list for anyone contemplating a spring lingerie renewal. But don’t go running to tell PETA. This capsule collection isn’t real snakeskin, it’s a shimmering, sheer black mesh print.
There are five pieces in the lingerie/loungewear range, with the standout being the Snakeskin trousers (above), a kind of harem pant with provocative hip cutouts and the distinctive Soonik waistband and logo-button. There’s also a basic tunic-style top, a triangle bra based on the label’s earlier Silvia bralette, and a brief based on its popular Maike style.
Soonik is the kind of designer who sheds her creative skin regularly, and the UK designer’s seasonal collections typically include something utterly unexpected and unlike her previous offerings. Last fall it was bunny-tail powder puffs, before that it was tennis costumes and before that it was an entire fishnet range.
And the Snakeskin set isn’t the only surprise in Soonik’s spring collection. Offering a completely different look and feel is the ballet-inspired lace Alison ensemble in a semi-sheer nude-orange blend, and the matching Polina chemise with a midriff belt that gives it a feminine, playful skirted look.
Below are some more images from the first product releases in the Spring 2015 collection.
And after that, something extra special. Earlier this year, photographer Jaanar Nikker shot a series of wonderful black-and-white portraits of model Silvia Kebbinau to showcase some of the most familiar pieces in Soonik’s Classics catalogue. You’ve seen the Susan Motion bodysuit, the Kristel suspender top and the Silvia fishnet range (shown here in a new nude colorway) many times before, but never like this.
