Love ’em or hate ’em, polka dots are making a major comeback this spring!
One just has to look at the spring 2010 runway collections, where delicate polka dot shorts were seen at Rebecca Taylor, and in contrast, big and bold prints graced the catwalks of Reem Acra. Not for the minimalist, Marc by Marc Jacobs showcased bright, bold polka dots and mixed prints.
Not to be the exception, lingerie and swimwear brands have incorporated polka dots into their collections this season. Again, many different styles afford women the option of modest polka dot prints, or all-over giant dots for maximum effect. As there are so many options this season, anyone can get into the polka dot trend.
If you’re taking a beach vacation this summer or simply visiting the one in your own backyard, why not opt for a fun, polka-dot swimsuit? If the retro look is more your style, Betsey Johnson has a feminine two-piece, and for a one-piece option, try the shirred, halter swimsuit from Pins and Needles. Both swimwear options aren available at urbanoutfitters.com. Or, why not try a daring, bold print in a punchy orange like the twist bandeau bikini from American Eagle (ae.com). Which ever style you choose, you will undoubtedly attract some attention this summer!
Lingerie has also has some great options when it comes to the polka dot trend. Again, if you prefer vintage, feminine styles, American Eagle’s ‘Emma’ bra is a delicate, plunge pushup, while Net-a-Porter (net-a-porter.com) offers a more upscale option with a balconet style from Mimi Holiday by Damaris.
Also available at Net-a-Porter are some nightgown/babydoll options. I personally love the chic, mixed polka dot print nightie by 3.1 Phillip Lim. The the silk-satin, pink polka dot camisole by Marni is perfect to incorporate into the spring trend of lingerie dressing.
Lingerie and swimwear is a great way to ease into the polka dot trend; it offers minimal coverage, and you can opt for a subtle or loud print in various styles. So, no matter what your personal taste is, even the most fickle shopper can adopt the polka dot trend this spring – no excuses!
