“Luxury that travels” promises the hot lingerie brand Ligne de Soie, a mix of fashion and function that we can all use this winter holiday season.
I mean, we’ve all been there. Staring at an open suitcase, wondering what to pack and, more importantly, which clothing pieces will actually survive the journey without bunching and wrinkling beyond recognition.
Melissa Pelz, the founder of Ligne de Soie (“line of silk”), has been there too. It was why the U.S.-born, London-based Pelz decided to create a line of luxurious silk robes, which now come in both single- and double-layer designs, to satisfy her needs and those of her jet-setting friends. Popular in the U.K. for some time, and now breaking into the U.S. market, the line carries products in four different categories: Classic, Vintage, Resort and Bridal.
Recently worn by both Blair and Serena on Gossip Girl — the ultimate stamp of approval from the fashionista crowd — Ligne de Soie is a brand with buzz. (If you’re interested, Blair wore the Chinois Silk Kimono from the Vintage collection while Serena sported the Blancs de Noir Silk Robe from the Classic collection).
The line of silk loungewear and accessories has been designed with the modern woman in mind, one who both works and plays hard. The Ligne de Soie woman is also someone who appreciates beauty, femininity and luxury, as well as efficiency and functionality.
These travel-friendly pieces work for both day and night and include the kimono-style robe that started it all as well as pajamas, camisoles, capri pants, tanks, gowns and accessories. All the items fold up small to make for easy packing and are made so that they don’t wrinkle easily. Each also comes with a pouch to help protect them while travelling.
For Spring/Summer 2011, Ligne de Soie has been clearly inspired by sun, sand and the tropics. The collection includes items bursting with colors from coral to turquoise and cobalt blue.
Various pieces, like the Tropez Silk Voile Wrap, feature a graphic floral print that looks almost retro, while others like the Tropez Silk V-Neck Top are just trimmed in it. Coral is the other predominant pattern in the collection and is also featured on a number of styles including tanks and capri pants, as well as the Coral Silk Kimono Robe, which also comes with a contrasting light blue belt.
Romantic and sophisticated, Ligne de Soie’s designs carefully walk the line between feminine and too-girly, while also managing to be both vintage-inspired and modern at the same time. The line can be purchased at boutiques in London or online.
So the next time you’re pondering what to pack — or just want to infuse your boudoir with some Gossip Girl inspired style — don’t forget to make Ligne de Soie your new travel buddy.

Will your household be like something out of Home Alone this Christmas — you know, a chaotic place full of extended family?
Well, even if the vacation ends in you wanting to strangle your rambunctious nephew Ralphie for destroying your bedroom, or finding a way to re-gift Aunt May’s jingle cats’ knit sweater online, or giving Uncle Luther the death stare from across the dining table for eating the last of the dark turkey meat, I’m sure that prior to this blissful vacation you’ll have wanted to make your best impression.
And by best impression, I mean waking up Christmas morning (or every morning during the holidays, for that matter), in coordinating, festive loungewear. And have I just the collection for you!
Steven Alan, purveyor of comfortable-cool apparel, has released a holiday loungewear collection that is bound to garner praise from the fam and, most importantly, make you feel très chic come Christmas.
Whether you’ll be celebrating in the comfort of your home or heading to a holiday retreat or cabin, you’ll be lusting after these must-have items:
1. PJ Pant ($118): Made from 100% super-soft cotton, these uber-festive plaid pants are also available in shorts ($78) and with matching sleep shirt ($138) in the top photos.
2. Crossback Nightie ($135): If the plaid pj’s are a bit too masculine for your taste, then you’ll definitely appreciate the sweet details of this grey striped nightie with empire waist and criss-cross straps.
3. Jenna Romper ($168): My absolute favorite style from the collection! This charming cream organic cotton romper is perfect for when you need to escape the hustle and bustle of holiday affairs and curl up with a great read. The adorable style features a drawstring waist and button-up Henley-style neckline.
4. Cozy Cropped Pant ($198): A definite addition to any loungewear collection, Steven Alan’s salt-and-pepper cotton cropped pant and matching pullover ($198) is the ideal outfit to relax in after a day of mingling and feasting!
Just remember, pretty loungewear will only do so much in improving your mood when it comes to dealing with family matters over the holidays (although you will look pretty darn good, if I may say so) . My advice? Stock the liquor cabinet.

There are two types of people when it comes to bathrobes: those like me, who hang an old fleecy robe they received as a gift on the back of their bedroom door as an afterthought, and those who prefer to call them dressing gowns and don’t just wear them after a shower or when fetching the mail.
Seeing as though I will be graduating soon and entering the ‘real world’ (as my mother gleefully likes to remind me), I’ve decided that it is time to toss the grubby old cover-up and purchase a more grown-up, sophisticated robe that will resist food stains and earn its place in my closet. Here’s a few choices I’m considering:
The first robe I’ve selected (top photo) is available from Victoria’s Secret ($78) and is offered in black, ivory and blush pink. The VS satin robe also features incredibly chic contrast piping and a monogrammed chest pocket. Perfect for the frugal fashion maven, this robe would look très chic spending a gluttonous afternoon at the Ritz, and echoes Ari Dein styling without the champagne price tag.
If you prefer the feel of silk, Brulee lingerie has a simple yet sophisticated option (above) for $220. With its short length, bell sleeves and contrast piping, it’s a little piece of luxury that won’t deplete your savings account.
As the upcoming holidays are upon us, what could be better than waking up Christmas morning decked out in a festive garnet-hued robe like the one above? Calvin Klein’s yuletide-appropriate option also features floral lace trim that results in a La Perla-esque look for only $78!
Of course, every woman needs the ultimate, luxurious, knock-em-dead robe in her wardrobe. Rosamosario’s Classic Belleza silk-chiffon and lace robe ($760) provides instant sex appeal when layered over your nightwear…or nothing at all. Hopefully, Santa (ahem, note to the BF) will see that I’ve been extra nice this year!
So toss away the old robe and adopt a new, grown-up version. Sigh … if only ‘growing up’ were as simple as upgrading your style!
Chic girls everywhere are often faced with choosing between comfortable — think track pants and oversized, ratty T-shirts — and sexy when looking for at-home loungewear. The problem is, while many of us would love to opt for the sexy and feminine every time, such pieces just aren’t that conducive to actually lounging.
Enter loungerie, a new term used by the undergarment industry to describe a style hybrid of chic lingerie pieces that are more about easy comfort than support.
One of the new companies that have successfully brought the loungerie concept to life is Plum Pretty Sugar. Launched in 2009 and designed by the British-born, California-bred Charlotte Mills, the line features soft and silky fabrics in several colorful prints with styles that range from tanks to kimonos and tunics.
According to Mills, the brand’s style is “easy-living chic,” which seems appropriate given her California upbringing.
Mills describes the PPS collection as “the vibration of my heart,” and indeed, there is something dreamy and feminine about her creations, which promise to help any woman be both comfortable and beautiful within the privacy of her own home.
Plum Pretty Sugar‘s kimono-style robes, tunics, slip dresses, tanks and lounge pants come in a variety of colors and fabrics. Choose between cotton voile and habutai silk in patterns that evoke colorful Indian garments, a riotous garden or modern sixties chic.
Current patterns include Beckoning Creatures, the hippie-prep Pink Love Poppy, the new Lilac with Ribbons Tied up with String, and the vibrant Darling Jardin Bleu and Silk Road Sweet.
The line also offers “a garden of sweet tanks for inside or out and a lounge pant to cozy into” — a set that has also been cleverly marketed as the ideal bridesmaid gift. Not only are the sets personal and functional, but for the coordinated bride they can also provide a uniform “getting ready” look for the girls on the morning of the nuptials. Many of the pieces like the tanks and tunics can also be worn outside the boudoir as well.
Plum Pretty Sugar also offers a line of bedding and curtains, printed fabric headbands, as well as “blooms” (printed pretty sacks with secret pockets and a drawstring pull) for jewelry and cosmetics.
The line can be purchased online at www.plumprettysugar.com or on Etsy.
There’s no doubt that a Plum Pretty Sugar piece will help brighten up the coming winter and would help any woman feel more feminine and stylish, whether she is lounging around the house, getting ready for a night out or looking to bring some casual romance to her honeymoon.
