Bare Necessities
Latrodectus_Dominatrix_1

If L.A.-based newcomer Latrodectus were a European lingerie label, its prices might not attract much attention. Artisanal and couture labels that spin their magic threads in famed ateliers have made four- and even five-figure lingerie fashions familiar in Europe, if not quite commonplace.

In budget-conscious North America, however, where so many brands compete for supremacy in the underwear 3-pack category, the stratospheric prices in the debut collection from Latrodectus seem out of place. Whether they’re also out of sync with what well-heeled clients are willing to spend remains to be seen.

Of course, Latrodectus isn’t your standard bra-and-briefs label. Designer Kaila Methven brings haute couture training and sensibility to the U.S. lingerie scene, and offers something closer to aristocratic boudoir costumes for women (and their partners) who are accustomed to erotic role-playing.

There are no bras or panties here, but you’ll find tutu skirts, tuxedo jackets, embroidered corsets, glittering hand-beaded bodysuits and four different thongs priced at $6,000 apiece. This is, quite literally, the lap of luxury.

Here’s a preview of what to expect from the 15-look debut collection by Latrodectus. Each piece has a distinctive character and is fashioned from fabrics imported from Milan and Paris and embellished with an assortment of straps, buckles and bling. Pieces are tailored by hand in the brand’s Beverly Hills atelier and require personal fit sessions by appointment.

I think even in Europe this would raise a few eyebrows! It all looks fabulous but that is a seriously luxury end cost!
