We’ve been dying to see the results of last fall’s out-of-this-world collab between fashion gadfly Nick Knight and a dozen top models who visited his SHOW Studio between rehearsals for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in London. You might remember that the photo sessions were live-streamed for several days in a row, and promised to offer Knight’s interpretation of “modern-day pin-ups”.
Now 10 Magazine, which sponsored the project, has released the mind-boggling results for its upcoming spring edition, called The Sensuality Issue. It comes with 12 separate covers, each featuring one of the VS Angels who participated in the shoot.
The project took a year to co-ordinate and was the brainstorm of Sophia Neophitou, founder of 10 Magazine and the creative force behind the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show over the past few years.
Both the scale and artistry of the ambitious project are off the charts. Each portrait is unlike all the others, using a wide array of props, outfits and media to create a uniquely contemporary portfolio of modern sensuality.
If you study the images you’ll see sly references to Vargas, Helmut Newton and even Gustav Klimt, along with teasing pop-culture touchstones — Lily Aldridge echoing Grace Jones, Lily Donaldson evoking a pre-Raphaelite Ophelia, and Barbara Fialho channeling 1970s’ Roxy Music album covers.
Viewed collectively, the series is a psychedelic sensory bombardment of glitter and gold flake, fishnet and body paint, rubber and foil and melting mirrors. Just how crazy did it get in Knight’s demented laboratory? Devon Windsor‘s cover features the leggy model in a custom-made bathtub, filled with milk and plumes of food dye.
10 Magazine is offering a limited edition package of all 12 covers, priced at £72. The magazine goes on sale Feb. 5, and SHOW Studio will stream footage from the shoot to coincide with the release.
