This is the time of year when much of North America is in the grips of Seasonal Affective Disorder — the depressive state caused by lack of sunshine that makes you want to curl up under the covers until spring returns.
If you live in California, though, the sun never retreats in winter and you even have trendy lifestyle brands with ironic names like Cloud Hunter. Grrrrr.
Known for its funky assortment of bedding and home accessories, all made in California, Cloud Hunter has just bestowed a sunny gift on the shivering masses living elsewhere: a super-bright, super-fun line of lingerie and loungewear.
It’s called Langoureux and it’s an eye-popping combination of retro glam frills and pop-art prints from Cloud Hunter designer Megan Pearl. Sunglasses are highly recommended.
The Langoureux assortment includes robes, fringed bodysuits, slips and bralette/bikini combo, with style names borrowed from classic screen pinups like Jayne Mansfield and Brigitte Bardot.
But the absolute must-have in the collection is the fabulous and fruity Carmen robe and matching slip, named for Carmen Miranda, the vivacious Latina star known for her fruit-bowl headwear. Just try feeling blue in this getup.
This being a California label, everything is meant for outerwear or home wear (or, as the brand calls it, “from the sheets to the streets”).
Cloud Hunter has even created an amusing lookbook character known as Bitbabe (above) to demonstrate some of the public possibilities for its lingerie, with images that use pixelated bitmaps to give the Langoureux line a retro feel dating all the way back to the 1970s.
And the best thing about this made-in-Cali label? Sure they have all the sunshine, but they’re still happy to ship out-of-state.
