There’s never a bad time to look at pictures of Elle Macpherson, but on this Throwback Thursday we have some extra-good reasons.
The Aussie icon reached a couple of important milestones in the past week: turning 50 (with little fuss, of course) and planting her brand’s flag in the North American lingerie market.
And here’s another milestone that will make you feel really old: it’s been 25 years since Elle first partnered with the Bendon Group to front Elle Macpherson Intimates, one of the first ‘celebrity’ underwear lines and one of the world’s most popular designer lines, period.
Elle’s new label (above) for American JC Penney stores is called The Body (naturally), and it’s an affordable diffusion line of the EM Intimates brand — a market-friendly range that retains the simple elegance that has defined its big sister brand all these years. There are four bra shapes under $50 and half a dozen brief styles under $15, in a variety of prints and colors.
The Body collection is available on the JC Penney website now, and will be available in about 300 stores starting tomorrow.
Here’s Elle today in a photo released to promote the new American line and make us all marvel at her incomparable, ageless appeal:
To fully appreciate Elle’s impact on the lingerie trade, though, you need to see everything that Elle Macpherson Intimates has done over the years. The styles have changed, but the basic aesthetic remains the same.
Elle doesn’t model her own lingerie line anymore (her brand prefers sunny lookalikes, such as the model above), but after 25 years she’s amassed a portfolio that is completely unequaled in the industry.
Here’s a look at some of our favorite shots from EM Intimates‘ archives dating back to the early 1990s, all modeled by Elle and shot by some of the world’s best photographers. Time marches on, but The Body endures, doesn’t it?
