We typically don’t recommend lingerie as a Christmas gift, because we don’t want to see your loved ones standing in the returns line on Boxing Day, hoping to find the right size or a more suitable style.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t indulge the stylista on your shopping list with some spicy stocking stuffers that acknowledge her fondness for fine boudoir fashions.
We’ve put together a list of 10 last-minute gift ideas somehow related to lingerie and sexy fashions in general. Keep in mind, any of these little items will be that much MORE welcome if they come with a gift card to her favorite lingerie boutique.
And in case you’ve left it all too late, keep this list handy: Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.
Maya Hansen Bedding Collection
For anyone with an obsessive devotion to all things lingerie, the bedding collection created this fall by the magnificent Spanish corset maker is an absolute must-have. It includes duvet covers, sheets, bedspreads and pillow covers featuring prints from Hansen’s expressive and original seasonal collections.
This collection is easier to find in Europe than North America, but anyone can purchase through Amazon’s VIP program (after you create an account). Pillows start at €10 and bedspreads start at €55.
Winter Widow Veiled Cap, Bex NYC
The very smart young New York label has built its name this year not just on the strength of its lingerie offerings, but a wickedly original line of companion accessories as well.
Bex’s knit cap ($70) includes a faux fur pom and birdcage veil, and comes in black, ivory and Christmas red. If this piece looks familiar, it’s because the Bex cap is one of the hottest fashion accessories of the season, showing up on hip young starlets like Emma Roberts and Anna Sophia Robb. And soon you.
PRETTY IN PINK
The Tutu Project 2014 Calendar
A lot of people were moved by our feature in October about Bob Carey, the New York photographer who shoots pictures of himself in a pink tutu to raise money for breast cancer research and to support his wife in her own battle against the disease.
Now, the Carey Foundation has produced a 2014 wall calendar ($50) that brings together some of Bob’s most memorable images. Mount this on your wall and it will be a conversation-starter all year long. And, as always, proceeds go to a great cause.
THE SWEETEST SMELL
Eau de Lingerie, Guerlain
Every high-end lingerie brand in the world seemed to introduce a fragrance this year, but French perfumier Guerlain went a step further. Working with the designer label Absolutely Pom, Guerlain created a romantic fabric spray for your intimate garments. Its Eau de Lingerie has delicate floral and powdery notes and, at €65 is the height of refinement for women who treat their intimates like treasured heirlooms.
Look for this in perfume boutiques, designer boutiques on online. And keep this in mind when Valentine’s Day comes around!
THE ONE AND ONLY
Kylie Fashion, Kylie Minogue
Words can barely express how much we adored this long-overdue retrospective of the provocative concert wardrobes, creative collaborations and personal style of the Aussie pop goddess.
With a loopy foreword from Jean Paul Gaultier, Kylie Fashion covers some the best fashion moments of the past 20 years, with privileged backstage looks at Kylie’s work with Dolce and Gabbana, Galliano, Versace, Mark Fast, Gareth Pugh, The Blonds and many many more.
This gift will leave any fashionista drooling for days. About $50 on Amazon.
ONE CRAZY NIGHT
‘Evening Crazy’ by Aubade
This may be the best — and rarest — gift item on our list. French brand Aubade last month teamed up with the legendary Crazy Horse burlesque cabaret in Paris to create a limited edition set of sexy lingerie called the ‘Crazy Collection’. Two unique red sets are available as part of Aubade’s popular Boite à Désir gift packages (€68-88).
But that’s just the start of what could be the best night of your life. The Crazy Horse is offering a dinner-show package until Dec. 30 that includes champagne and one of the Aubade ‘Crazy’ sets, starting at €305. Airfare and defibrillation not included.
TIE ME UP
Rachel Apron, Kahn Art
Aficionados of vintage lingerie and classic pinup art will know the name Dorothy Kahn, the Canadian artist who created the original ‘Frederick’s Girl’ and many other commercial illustrations in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
The Kahn family has been developing a selection of fan merchandise like posters and greeting cards based on Dorothy’s extensive catalogue of works, which you can find here. We like the aprons — three sexy options that only hint at what’s underneath.
MMM MMM GOOD
Cupcake Vibrator, Shiri Zinn
The cutest (and incredibly popular) new vibrator on the market this year comes from the kinky and clever British artist Zinn. The Cupcake comes in retro polka-dot tin and manages to produce 5 vibrating modes with just a pair of AAA batteries. So adorable you can leave it out when the in-laws visit, and no one will be the wiser.
THAT TINGLY FEELING
Sensual Orgasm Balm, Coco De Mer
If you only have £10 to spend in Coco De Mer‘s emporium of adult pleasures, well, that’s a pity. But this little gem described as a “clitoral enhancer” would make a delicious stocking stuffer for the naughty hedonist on your Christmas list. And here’s a bonus: we have it on good authority that the tingly cherry-scented gel works wonders on the male anatomy as well.
BALL OF FUN
Chocolate Bauble, Box of Grey
Nothing says Christmas like festive seasonal ornaments. But this little baby from the UK purveyors of kinky BDSM starter kits is more than it seems.
BOG’s shiny bauble is made from artisanal chocolate by Cocomaya and is filled with a set of white leather Tamzin Lillywhite bracelet cuffs on a gold chain. &#euro;145.
A BEAUTIFUL YEAR
Miss Miranda 2014 Calendar, What Katie Did
This beautiful wall calendar shot by Julian Kilsby features a dozen pinup shots of burlesque model Miss Miranda, wearing some of Katie’s classic and new vintagesque creations. Forget all those cheesecake products on the market; for our money (a mere $20) this is the best lingerie calendar of the year.
NOTE: The main image at the top features the red satin All Wrapped Up Body Bow from Bluebella (£16). There must be someone on your Christmas list who would appreciate this!
