A design collaboration is a bit like a marriage: with the right blend of personalities, it can produce something wonderful and enduring that neither partner could create alone. Of course, it can also be like a one-night stand: an impulsive, NSA chance to unshackle oneself from daily drudgery and experiment, explore or just have fun with someone new.
This year has been filled with inspired collabos in the lingerie industry that fit both descriptions. Gwyneth needed cute summer jammies, so she made some with Araks. The Lake and Stars found their pretty with Kate Spade, then hooked up with H&M, then hit the beach with Wren. Agent Provocateur adopted those poor Cruz girls, and Lascivious discovered its inner tough chick thanks to a fortuitous one-off with leather artist Tamzin Lillywhite.
The newest, and one of the sweetest, in this growing trend sees the colorful Cosabella team up with it-girl fashion designer Erin Fetherston for a bridal lingerie collection that marries romantic whimsy with practical luxury.
The collaboration was a natural fit for Erin, who married her rockstar beau Gabe (Cobra Starship) Saporta this summer and posted her storybook wedding album online. It’s also a great complement for Cosabella, which was looking to expand its bridal offerings and earlier this year celebrated its Miami roots with a gorgeous retro collaboration with the TV show Magic City.
“When it comes to bridal, Cosabella has always had a place in the market but we’ve never truly explored our range,” said Cosabella VP Guido Campello in a press release. “This collaboration with Erin will allow us to expand our reach by creating the luxurious fairytale pieces brides are demanding; lingerie that caters to both her wedding day and night.”
You can see both contributors’ DNA in the Erin Fetherston x Cosabella range: the soft palette, princess bows and satin tie-sides are all Erin, while the close-fitting, lace-and-mesh basics offer the kind of daywear luxury that Cosabella is renowned for.
This collection will also bring massive attention to Erin’s “muse”, India Salvor Menuez (above), the redhead model in the opulent campaign lookbook shot by Shae DeTar. With her titian hair, porcelain skin and distant, contemplative gaze, India evokes the mythic heroines in any number of pre-Raphaelite paintings: a modern Ophelia, perhaps?
India is just 20 but the Brooklyn indie artist and actress has career paths pointing in many directions, including a bright future as a lingerie model if she wants it. She’s already modeled for VPL this fall and, famously, was part of the mother-daughter team at the center of the Lake and Stars controversy two years ago.
The ultra-feminine Erin Fetherston x Cosabella collection will reach high-end retailers in February with prices ranging from $20 to $240. Other collections are planned for this partnership, including sleep and loungewear pieces.
Below are more images from the collection’s lookbook and marketing campaign which was shot at a popular spot for weddings, the Locanda Villa in Easton, PA. You probably won’t see a prettier photoshoot all year.
As for Erin, if her marriage to Gabe proves as felicitous as her partnership with Cosabella, she’ll be one blessed girl indeed.
