When I first heard about a new product calling itself “lingerie for the hair“, I had a nightmarish image of drunken frat boys running around with panties on their heads at Spring Break.
Happily, it’s not that at all. Although calling these lacey scrunchies “lingerie” is, pardon the pun, a bit of a stretch.
More than anything, the new accessories label Bandtz (pronounced “bandits”) shows what you can do with a simple idea, a little innovation and a whole lot of marketing.
Bandtz is a line of lingerie-inspired hair ties that double as wrist bands, and are constructed from elastic trim with a variety of fabric pairings. Sets of three go for $15 and there are numerous patterns and styles to choose from, including a series of bows in both stretch lace and microfiber.
Bandtz are handmade in New York by founder Julia Gabella who grew tired of keeping ugly elastic hair ties on her wrist for hair-care emergencies. She got the idea for Bandtz after using stretchy ribbon from a gift wrapping in place of a hair tie.
“A hair tie on the wrist is a security blanket for any long-haired woman,” she said. “Tired of having to choose between an unsightly elastic or feeling naked, I created hair bands that would actually complement your look.”
Bandtz are available online and at select retailers and come packaged in a small gold organza pouch.
And the best thing about all this? You’ll never have to use a spare thong as a last-minute hair-tie solution again (now that‘s lingerie for the hair!)
Besides, there are enough styles in the Bandtz catalogue that you’re sure to find one that matches your undies to give you a very clever coordinated look!
