AP’s Polarizing ‘Pussy’ Video

The latest video from Agent Provocateur is bound to have a polarizing effect on viewers.

Some will consider the one-joke film, called Valentine’s Night, juvenile and unfunny. But anyone with a taste for crude schoolboy humor — ie., the male half of the population — will think it’s a riot. Pussy jokes are like that.

Valentine’s Night is the third in a series of AP shorts created by British video and TV director Nick Jones. The series — which included The Chase and Secret Santa from last year (both funnier) — is meant to showcase the British sense of humor, as well as AP’s skimpy knickers.

This one stars UK supermodel Poppy Delevigne (Cara’s big sister), who wears the leopard-print lace Roxie set, a 1970s retro look from Agent Provocateur’s Classics range.

The video’s double-entendre punchline is also a homage to another ’70s nugget — an apocryphal TV moment in which Zsa Zsa Gabor, sitting with a cat on her lap, supposedly asked Johnny Carson: “Would you like to pet my pussy?” To which the affable host replied, “I’d love to, but first you’ll have to move that damn cat.”

Although it was once called “the dirtiest thing ever said on television”, that exchange actually never happened — but it’s been referenced so often it became part of Carson’s legend. Here’s a 1989 exchange in which Jane Fonda confronts him about the incident:

As for Poppy, she’s probably going to hear people whispering “Here, kitty, kitty!” everywhere she goes for a long time to come.
