Kriss Soonik’s ‘Titanic’ Fall Collection

The only thing missing in Kriss Soonik‘s Titanic-inspired photo and video campaign is that unforgettable movie moment when Kate Winslet‘s hand reaches up and smears the steamy car window in a moment of ecstasy. But if you follow the sequence of images below, it’s not hard to imagine that‘s what comes next.

The Estonian designer’s new collection is called Icebreaker and its promo campaign follows a very Kate-and-Leo-like couple getting to know each other aboard a turn-of-the-century ship. Unique loungerie pielces like Soonik’s slinky velour Diana wrap help to melt the ice, both inside and outside.

It’s a safe bet that no one went to greater lengths, or endured more hardship, than Soonik to bring their creative vision to life this season.

The campaign was shot aboard the icebreaker Suur Toll in Estonia during the coldest week in five years, with temperatures plunging to -20F. Even the ship’s captain wanted to postpone the shoot — and he does this sort of thing for a living.

“The whole ship was covered with ice and a snow storm was approaching,” Soonik writes in her blog. But the shoot proceeded successfully, thanks to “brave models, warm dressing gowns and a bit of cognac.”

As she has done in the past, Soonik uses the occasion of a new seasonal collection to add a few more pieces to a growing catalogue of creative signature styles.

For example, there’s a new open-front lace body called Kadi, which is a variation on her popular Susan Motion piece, and the more multi-functional Airi Monarch body in jersey with satin paneling.

Soonik’s seasonal palette this time is navy, black and gold, and she’s added gold buttons bearing the label’s familiar cat icon to all the pieces. There are a couple of new bra-knickers sets, but the standout in this collection will likely be the all-lace Helen ensemble — a sheer shortie wrap paired with equally revealing pants.

For fans (and gift-givers) who appreciate iconoclastic styles that exude luxury but don’t look like anything you’d find in a department store window, Kriss Soonik is hard to beat.
