Matthias Jaschke, founder of the aptly-named German label Wundervoll, is one of those designers we like to keep an eye on because you never know where he’s going next … or who’s going to follow him.
Matthias is never satisfied to copy trends or to recycle his own ideas; instead, he’s always searching for new ways to express his vision of modern femininity. Little wonder, then, that Wundervoll’s designs are usually highly admired, and a couple of seasons ahead of style trends.
Last season, Wundervoll delivered one of the most out-there lingerie collections of the year — the triumphant Deep Space range inspired by galaxy-hopping science fiction characters. Seriously, was there a more forward-looking collection in 2011?
Now, for Spring-Summer 2012, the label does an about-face with the safari-inspired Mission Glory collection that is meant to evoke the golden age of exploration. Get yourself an Indiana Jones hat, some hiking boots and a bullwhip and your look is complete!
There are 12 styles in the Mission Glory range, dominated by silk satin in a summery color called papaya, which conjures up images of dusty vistas in exotic climes. That’s the Safari bra and Venture panty in the top photo — a dramatic look that will be a must-have this spring for fans of lingerie-outerwear looks.
Wundervoll augments its SS2012 set with some styles from last year’s Deep Space range in a bleached semi-sheer cotton batiste that contrasts nicely with the satiny Mission Glory styles. (That’s the Vision bra and Universe panty above.) Pieces from both sets can be mix-and-matched.
And although Mission Glory is deliberately nostalgic, this new range (like all of Wundervoll’s work) uses modern fabrics and tailoring to create a very contemporary look. With its elasticized belt-like bands, woven straps and bits of hardware, Mission Glory comes across as a uniform for hip, urban adventurers.
Wundervoll describes its products as “luxury underwear”, an appropriate label that emphasizes the combination of unpretentious functionality and fashion-forward styling that characterizes this intriguing brand.
The Mission Glory pieces in the spring collection are also available in a more traditionally vintagesque dusky rose shade, while the Deep Space pieces can still be had in the shimmery crystal hue introduced last season.
Whether your intimate explorations have you looking toward the future or the past in 2012, Wundervoll has you covered!
