CALGARY — They’re going to have to come up with a better nickname for the city known as ‘Cowtown’.
The Alberta city’s retail sector got an image upgrade this week with the opening of a new Victoria’s Secret store yesterday, just days after jewelry icon Tiffany & Co. also opened for business in the same mall. Not bad for a city best known for its annual rodeo — and for being the Prime Minister’s home town.
About 500 Calgary shoppers lined up for hours at the Chinook Centre for the VS opening, and a chance to meet supermodels Candice Swanepoel and Doutzen Kroes.
Yesterday also saw the opening of another Victoria’s Secret store in the Toronto suburb of Etobicoke, giving the company six VS stores along with eight VS Pink shops in Canada.
And the company’s steady expansion appears to be paying off richly: Victoria’s Secret yesterday reported a 25% year-over-year growth in sales, pushing up stock prices (and profit forecasts) for parent company Limited Brands.
That’s Candice and Doutzen at the Calgary opening in the photos above and below — hard to believe Doutzen delivered her first child barely three months ago!
