First of a Series
What’s the most popular export from Colombia to the United States these days (and no snickering, please)? We’d venture to say that lingerie is in the top three.
Colombia’s beauty-obsessed culture, amplified by pageants and sexy telenovelas, is the perfect breeding ground for some really great lingerie. Colombian women are renowned for their smoldering looks and taste for luxurious finery, and the country’s lingerie industry has delivered the goods to match: you’ll see a lot of European-influenced refinements in Colombian lngerie, married with the steamier and more daring silhouettes you find in Brazil.
In the U.S., women can now access a growing number of Colombian lingerie brands without having to worry about risky international mail-order and customs.
Today, we begin our series on up-and-coming Colombian labels breaking into the U.S. market with a look at Malha, a sexy lingerie brand for the trendy and confident urban woman.
Malha releases two collections every year and the one for Fall 2011 recently debuted at the CURVE Lingerie Expo in New York, which had many people buzzing (and made Lingerie Talk interested in finding out more about Colombian labels).
Malha Lingerie is owned and manufactured by Confecciones Marlstone, a company that was founded in 1991 and produces three lingerie brands (including the Latin American-focused Amour and the sensual Tócame). The company exports to more than 15 different countries worldwide.
For Fall 2011, Malha offers up a variety of sexy, lacy looks that seem perfect for their target consumer: young, trendy and confident. From plunge bras and boy-cut briefs to one-piece jumpsuit/bodysuits and kimonos, Malha is all about the understated, streamlined and sexy. The brand’s big color for fall is bottle green and the hottest color combo is yellow and grey. New colors in the collection include white and champagne.
The black-and-white ad campaign to advertise this new collection features a dark-haired model decked out in a variety of the Malha Lingerie looks — and horns. There’s definitely a vibe of devilish seduction behind this collection. A behind-the-scenes video is also available if you want to see Malha in motion.
Malha’s new collection should reach U.S. shops this summer. Watch this space and we’ll update with stockist information as it becomes available.
