La Perla’s Beautiful Babies for Brides
Posted by amy | April 8, 2011

Anything new from La Perla makes us perk up, even when it’s not strictly, um, new.

The venerable Italian label has just introduced a bridal section to its U.S. online boutique. Fittingly, it includes something old, something new and lots of things borrowed.

The vast majority of La Perla’s bridal shop — which includes more than 50 pieces — is simply a curated selection of items from the brand’s existing style ranges. Nothing wrong with that, of course, so long as everyone understands that this is more of a convenience for shoppers than a product launch.

La Perla has identified an assortment of lingerie pieces and nightwear to cover all the bases in your trousseau, and in a handful of colorways suitable for the occasion. Some items — a new strapless bustier and classic high-waisted brief — will become must-have foundation pieces for innumerable women.

In fact, La Perla offers so much to true lingerie aficianados it’s sometimes hard to know where and when to begin drooling; or, more importantly given the price points, where your bridal wardrobe budget can be put to best use.

For our money, if you’re going to splurge on only one La Perla piece for your trousseau, the place to begin shopping is their selection of dreamy babydolls. A babydoll is a wedding night must: partly concealing, partly revealing … pure seductive tease. And a perfect way to remind your groom why he’s such a lucky guy on your wedding night.

The La Perla bridal selection showcases a dozen different babydolls and short cover-ups, each of them exquisitely crafted and delicately embellished with lace embroidery and other subtle touches. (That’s the LP Bridal short nightgown in the photo above; there’s also a longer version available.)

The Barocco baby in silk georgette with a richly gathered band is one of the best, and the priciest at $432. For a more vintage look, the Art Deco ranges offers two babies: a silk satin model at $255 and a more daring style in sheer tulle with a lace bodice, a winner at just $138.

You’ll also be drawn to the Joelle, with its sleek silhouette and rich satin trim ($243), or the elegant simplicity of the Malizia silk satin baby ($119) which comes in several hues including the blush pink shown below.

There are also two pieces from La Perla’s new fashion-forward Spring in New York collection, a viscose babydoll with deep-V neckline and side slits ($195), and a sheer slip with gorgeous floral lace trim at the hem and bust ($157).

And, of course, that’s only the start. Once you plunge into La Perla’s bridal bounty you’ll want to explore their sumptuous lace robes, satin pjs and statement lingerie ensembles.

Better plan on a long honeymoon!
