Designer Sonata Rapalyte has seen sewing since the age of 7. It’s no surprise, then, that the pieces from her eponymous lingerie label, Sonata, are meticulously crafted with the precision of a lifelong lover of all things beautiful.
Born and raised in Lithuania, Sonata moved to London, where she contributed to the first Damaris collection. She now calls the Sardinian coast home, which is where she launched Sonata. Her first collection boasted billowing chiffon, echoing the waves around her. Sonata also introduced buyers to Essentially Sonata, an everyday-wear collection of linen pieces, classic and crisp.
Gorgeous island-living is also an obvious inspiration in Sonata’s newest collection, Ultraviolet. The handmade-to-order spring/summer collection is constructed from the purest silks and the finest lace.
Each set in the Ultraviolet collection is sold in pieces, allowing you to mix-and-match to your heart’s content. So you can pair the pretty-ruffle Elise underwire bra with either the ribbon thong or the knickers. A girl’s gotta have options!
The Isis set is for the girl who dares to expose, in seductive barely-there black silk. The Isis cup-less bra is not for the modest. (Nor does it do much beneath your work clothes. Only try this at home.)
Ultraviolet’s Layla set has a playful, modern edge with its contrasting color and unique button detailing. Unlike the Isis bra, the Layla underwired bra is built for great shape and support.
Lavender lace makes the Maia bodysuit stand out in the collection. Part timeless romance, part seductress, this delicate jumpsuit has silk-satin-covered buttons fasten the front opening.
The Eva set is wedding-night-worthy. The silk chiffon slip with voluminous sleeves could easily fit into any lingerie lover’s wardrobe. Layer it over something lacey, or dare to wear it alone.
But nothing hints at Sonata’s island lifestyle more than the Calypso set. The watermelon-hued slip drapes effortlessly. It’s laid-back, silk-chiffon luxury.
