The Craziest Collection You Will Ever See

Looking for something different? Something riotously colorful and insanely original?

Then you owe it to yourself to check out Purrfect Pineapples, a Toronto-based indie line of cruelty-free vegan lingerie that is almost too delicious for words.

Wait, I know what you’re thinking: “Cruelty-free vegan lingerie?” As it turns out, it’s not as crazy as it sounds — or looks.

Erika Shuhendler, an animal-loving design-savvy vegan with an appreciation of women’s curves, saw an untapped niche market when she found herself unimpressed with her lingerie options.

Silk and leather are not vegan, sweatshops are not human-friendly, and black lace, quite frankly, bored her. So Erika set off to make lingerie she actually wanted to wear without compromising her values.

In 2004, Purrfect Pineapples debuted its handmade line of adorable silk-screened underthings, with no animal byproducts or miserable sweatshop factories involved.

Erika silk-screens each hand-cut piece herself in her Toronto studio. (Note: this enables custom orders and adjustments for those of us who are hard-to-fit.) Her darling line has grown to include halter bras, garter belts, panties with bum ruffles, steel-boned corsets and cute hair bows.

And Purrfect Pineapples’ outrageous promotional materials — tattooed models wearing donut-printed lingerie — certainly capture the spirit of the line: girlie, but with a grrly edge and a wicked sense of humor.

There’s something fun for everyone in the PP catalogue. If you’re looking for something a bit tougher than sugar-patterned lingerie, check out their metallic or plaid pieces. Want something edgier still? Then you’ll definitely go for the Skull Mesh Soft Cup Bra (bottom left photo), which will also come in handy next Halloween!

And Ms Shuhendler is a genuine walk-the-walk designer when it comes to her eco-values. While some labels post videos of their latest catwalk shows, Erika’s website features a video promoting animal-rescue operations at Farm Sanctuary and a contest to help “sponsor a cow”.

For eco-aware girls who are careful about where they spend their money, Purrfect Pineapples offers guilt-free indulgence at its best. When you hand over your credit card, you know you’re paying for quality materials, an original product and fair wages — and leaving behind a tiny footprint.

Shop for these unique pieces at select Toronto boutiques, at Purrfect Pineapples’ website, or on Etsy.
