Girls just want to have fun … and find love. And few labels do a better job of capturing that eternal truth than Miss Unkon.
The increasingly popular Australian lifestyle and lingerie brand creates a world of whimsical fancy and carefree romance with its Spring/Summer 2011 collection, “Love is like a Dreamland: A Journey of Young Love.”
Brisbane designer Courtney Meyer launched Miss Unkon in 2009, coining its name from the German word “unkonventional.” The brand showed at RAFW, wasting no time earning the coveted title of “New Generation Standout.” Since then, Miss Unkon continues to gain a cult following of young fashionistas looking for love, living with passion, and craving divine lingerie under it all.
The new collection features soft, feminine looks with a bohemian flare. Pastel pinks, sheer fabrics, and frills exude young love’s innocence and unadulterated beauty. (That’s the candy-colored Heart bra in the photo above.)
Miss Unkon’s lookbook includes more than just bras and panties: dresses, blouses, and wonderful wide-leg pants show the brand’s versatility. Many pieces are loose-fitting, lending the collection an air of playfulness and infinite possibility.
Somewhat ironically, Miss Unkon’s new collection isn’t very unconventional — the designs meld seamlessly with current fashion and lingerie trends. At NYFW, romanticism and optimism gracefully dominated the runways; top designers like Marc Jacobs combined these sentiments with 70’s boho brilliance, and sheer fabric was ubiquitous. The lingerie world is also trending toward lady-like softness and pastel shades.
Although not especially unique, Miss Unkon’s designs are beautiful and obviously inspired by great feminine imaginations. More than just a label, Miss Unkon uses its passion to do real good in the world. by supporting many charities benefiting causes affecting girls, including The Amira Project for improving the self-esteem of young women.
Miss Unkon can be purchased in the U.S. at Damsel in Distress (NYC), or from a small number of online retailers found on www.missunkon.com. Keeping young women in mind, prices hover reasonably around the $200-300 range for clothing and $100 for lingerie.
Below are some dreamy images from the Love Is Like A Dreamland campaign shot by Nelson Lai. The campaign has been so well received it’s also being turned into a book, which you can find here.
With its ability to capture the essence of girl’s hearts, Miss Unkon is one brand weaving a story worth following!
