Victoria Bartlett’s label, VPL, is expected to make a big splash (again) next year when the New York designer’s spring 2011 collection hits the boutiques.
Last week, VPL’s Fashion Week runway show proved the trendsetting label is ready to stake its claim as North America’s go-to label for creative underwear-as-outerwear ensembles.
Some hallmarks from this year’s VPL collections were apparent in the spring 2011 preview — a fondness for neutral tones, contrasting color blocks, and style cues taken from athletic wear and sports bras — but Bartlett has taken this trend to a new level entirely.
VPL’s lingerie pieces are barely concealed under a dizzying assortment of opaque mesh separates — this label alone has enough diversity to drive the sheer fashions trend next season.
Perhaps most noticeable from the runway show were the subtle changes in Bartlett’s palette. This season’s silvery grey tones are less evident, replaced by warm ochre and umber hues. If 2010 was the year of “greige” (a reference to the grey-beige blends favored by VPL and others), next year could easily become the year for “breige” thanks to the reddish-brown tinges in VPL’s upcoming line.
Here’s just a small sample from VPL’s runway show. You can see more at VPL’s website, including video of the FW runway show.
Final note: VPL just this week added an online shop to its website for those of us who don’t spend our time trolling SoHo boutiques trying to keep up with trends!
