Mad Men is quickly becoming a fashion trendsetter — or re-setter — and the vintage lingerie revival movement couldn’t be happier.
The new season of the slick 60s-era drama has become must-see TV for fashionistas everywhere. Magazine editors, too.
Latest example? Voluptuous bombshell Christina Hendricks, who is doing more to sell foundation garments these days than anyone since Bettie Page (sorry Dita!).
And no one is smiling more than UK retro label What Katie Did.
Christina, who was named the most beautiful woman in America by Esquire last spring, appears in the September issue of British GQ modeling a pair of stunningly elegant corsets from WKD.
Several shots in the layout feature WKD’s satiny Glamour merry widow, a quintessential piece of 1950s shapewear that accentuates the upper torso. It’s available online from What Katie Did for about $80 USD, but take note: it only comes in black and peach — the deep indigo hue in Christina’s magazine layout is pure Photoshop.
Christina is also seen in the GQ spread wearing WKD’s low-back Lulu corselette. This satin-and-powermesh piece retails for $87 USD and smoothes your hips and butt better than four weeks at boot camp. It comes only in the red-and-black pattern that Christina is wearing, but WKD also offers several other lingerie pieces in the same Lulu line.
You can see more of Christina and the Mad Men gang at the Emmy Awards on Aug. 29 — and don’t be surprised if it resembles a 1960 fashion show!
