Last weekend as I was helping my girlfriend find ‘work’ shoes (you know, ones deemed ‘appropriate’ for the office yet not resembling orthopedic footwear) we stopped into my favorite vintage shop and lo-and-behold my must-have item of the moment stared me right in the face — a turban.
Not only was it a turban (coming back in style, I’ll have you know), but it was a NUDE, chiffon turban knotted beautifully in the front.
Excitedly, I walked towards the display it was delicately perched atop and plucked it from its place, eager to try it on. I timidly placed it on my head, silently praying it would fit and that I would not resemble Aladdin in the slightest.
“You look…crazy,” my friend commented, looking quizzically at the exotic headpiece.
Obviously I bought it.
Which brings to me to my current issue; I intend on wearing the turban while on vacation this summer and want a caftan to pair it with. Not only does the turban need a caftan, but it fits in with my fantasy of my mother and I living out a Grey Gardens-esque life — just minus the actual crazy.
I have narrowed down a few choices: a beautiful silk style by Natori (natori.com), a luxurious knit option by Missoni (this style and all others at net-a-porter.com), a short black option by La Perla, a Grecian-inspired look by 3.1 Phillip Lim or a bead embellished Melissa Odabash design.
Not only will a caftan work superbly as a beach cover-up, but it will also lend itself to a night out if need be. And you don’t require a turban to pull-off this look, as swimwear is getting sexier and worn more for ‘show’, why not invest in a beautiful cover-up?
Which of these glamorous styles is your favorite? Let me know!
Absolutely love the Philip Lim caftan! So fresh, and a great way to transition into the trend, without being overwhelmed.
Thanks Jess! I too also favor the 3.1 Phillip Lim! It’s right on trend, but I love the modern length.
