We’re only on the cusp of summer (and trying out summer trends, for that matter) but the fashion world is full-steam ahead with their Resort 2011 collections.
So while we’re purchasing our of-the-moment chambray denim and nautical stripes, the fashion gods are already dictating what trends to look forward to next year. And the good news is that lingerie-inspired details are not going away any time soon!
Diane von Furstenberg recently premiered her Resort 2011 collection and inside the show’s program was a 1938 Ara Gallant image of the actress perched on a director’s stool peering at herself in a mirror, wearing a pink silk teddy. This boudoir photo provided the inspiration for the collection that consisted of lingerie-inspired beach looks.
Differing greatly from Von Furstenberg‘s masculine detailed Fall collection, the Resort showing was much more feminine with chic geometric prints, retro swimwear and wrap-style cover-ups. The silk robe-like, signature wrap dress (bottom right) and lace trimmed chemise/dress (top left) not only feature lingerie detailing and inspiration, but also work seamlessly for the fashionable urbanite.
I love that the color palette of the collection has remained fairly neutral with the sharp contrast of black and white, with the exception of bright pops of yellow. The accessories also coordinate with the dresses, rompers and swimsuits for a very 1930s feminine styling.
Check out the runway images for current style inspiration. If you’re still looking for a summer swimsuit, opt for a retro style in a classic black-and-white combo that will work seamlessly and fashionably into next year.
