Who says you shouldn’t work up a sweat in your finest boudoir lingerie?
U.S. tennis star Venus Williams pushed back a few fashion boundaries on the weekend by showing up at the French Open in this attention-grabbing outfit.
Venus handled her match against Patty Schnyder easily, winning in straight sets, but most of the talk at Roland Garros was about the outfit, not the match.
The ensemble included a black lace top with red piping and trimmed with a short tulle skirt, but it’s what was underneath that set tongues wagging: flesh-toned compression shorts.
All this has set the internet abuzz, as wizened sports writers try to figure out how to report the story. I’ve seen articles that describe the offending outfit as “can-can”, “cabaret”, “tutu” and “see-through lingerie.”
Well, it’s none of above but it is another triumph for the irrepressible Williams, who has taken to the court in boundary-pushing outfits many times before.
We think Venus was simply offering a fashion nod to the glorious French tradition of lace intimates. Either that or she was just trying to distract her opponent.
Hard to argue with either explanation. Game, set and match to Venus!
