Alexander Wang is the IT designer for cool, downtown style – think model Erin Wasson‘s grunge/rock style.
Wang is best known for his casual/luxury tees that are made from the softest cotton, and which drape the body in that perfect disheveled-pulled-together look. As I am already a huge fan of Wang’s line, how excited was I to discover that he has introduced lingerie into his basic ‘T’ collection?!
What I love about Wang’s intimates is that they are devoid of any feminine detailing – not even the slightest sight of bows and ruffles (I do, however, like a ruffle and bow now and again). Instead, Wang’s ‘T’ collection is a diffusion line consisting of cool, athletics-inspired body-conscious bras, briefs and loungewear; think borrowing your boyfriend’s underwear.
Wang’s 2010 spring runway collection featured models strutting down the runway with bras peeking out from underneath jackets and fine, gauzy sweaters, and men’s-inspired underwear paired with knee-high socks. I love the styling of the models in Wang’s runway show (though I won’t be wearing undies as pants anytime soon!), and they are definitely great separates to lounge in or layer with other pieces of clothing. Some of the bra tops are also perfect, fashionable alternatives to standard workout gear.
Not only is the collection totally on par with the lingerie trend of dressing, but the whole sporty/’sweats’ look is in. Hey, if the fashion world is on board the whole sweatpants-as-actual-pants trend, then count me in. And please, let this last statement not serve as reason for you to wear your flannel pyjamas in public and claim you’re ‘in style’…save the public’s eyes from such atrocity!
Photos above are from Wang’s spring runway show this year. Below are some of my faves: grey cotton sweat-shorts (left); a v-plunge bra and jockey-ish briefs; and sweatpants with stovepipe stems! Not sure if I could pull off those boots, though.
