Normally reserved to wear underneath our clothing, lingerie takes center stage this Spring / Summer 2010, in the latest version of underwear as outerwear.
We’ve seen this trend on the runways of Dolce and Gabbana, Marc Jacobs and Christian Dior. In fact, Spring 2010 has emphasized lingerie-inspired outfits and featured models strutting down the runway in bras and bustiers on full display. Designers like Christian Dior and Marc Jacobs featured soft, feminine, ethereal looks, while Alexander Wang took more of a sporty approach to lingerie dressing.
Now, I am not advocating we all throw on our sultriest pieces and saunter down the sidewalk à la Lady Gaga; it will definitely attract attention, just maybe not the kind one hopes for! The key to adopting the underwear as outerwear trend is to feature just one piece of lingerie when creating your outfit. For instance, a bra in a pretty lace, solid silk or satin, would look great under a sheer blouse — your blouse provides coverage while still allowing that ‘peek-a-boo’ allure.
If you feel a little more adventurous, why not try a structured bustier with high-waisted skirt or pants, and a boyfriend blazer? Likewise, if you have great gams, a pair of silk shorts with a sheer, loose tee or sweater will create a dynamic outfit due to the different textures that still allows you to wear underwear as outerwear.
From runway to real-way, these tips on how to incorporate lingerie pieces into your everyday dressing, will ensure that you definitely remain chic and tasteful for Spring / Summer 2010.
